Illustrator 2025 (v29) or newer. Older versions don’t list Linyal at all.

Mac and Windows

Linyal runs in Illustrator on both. On Windows, photographs for the Editorial guideline website keep the size you picked them at, and an iPhone’s HEIC photos can’t be picked. Tell us if anything doesn’t work as it should, and we’ll fix it.

A browser, for two PDFs

The Editorial guideline PDF and the handover report PDF are printed by a browser already on your computer: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Chromium or Brave on a Mac, and Chrome, Edge or Brave on Windows. Linyal opens it out of sight, with a profile of its own and no background traffic; your own browser profile isn’t touched. Linyal doesn’t use Safari or Firefox for this.

The Studio deck’s PDF needs no browser: Illustrator saves it. Without a browser, Linyal leaves a print-ready page and tells you how to save it as PDF.

Photographs

For the Editorial guideline website on a Mac, macOS’s own image tool scales photographs over 2,400 px and turns an iPhone’s HEIC into a JPEG. On Windows, photographs keep the size you picked them at. Location and camera data are removed everywhere.

The internet

Needs it

The trial’s date and the Free and Pro settings, when the panel starts. Activating a Pro key. The daily licence check. Usage counts, which you can turn off under Settings › Privacy.

Works offline

Measuring, drawing, Clean up, Present and every export. The guideline websites and PDFs never ask for anything online.

First start offline

Everything Free works. The trial and the Free and Pro settings arrive the first time Linyal starts online.

Pro offline

Pro keeps working for 30 days after its last check, then 7 more while Settings asks you to check. After that, Pro pauses until a check gets through.

A Pro key works on two machines at a time.

Moving it

Settings › Deactivate this machine, while online. Lost the machine? Free the seat at linyal.com/deactivate.

Panel files

Settings, the licence and an install ID are kept in ~/Library/Application Support/com.kadlab.linyal/ on a Mac, and %APPDATA%\com.kadlab.linyal\ on Windows. The brand you save is kept inside your .ai file.

In your document

• A mark of up to 4,000 points. From 3,501, Inspect waits until you press Measure.
• Up to 500 selected items.
• Live text outlined first: Type › Create Outlines.
• Figures follow the document’s ruler units: pt, pc, in, mm, cm, px or Q.
• Logo files are made in a new RGB document, and the print PDF in a new CMYK one. Your document isn’t changed by an export.
