The first public version. Linyal reads the marks you’ve drawn in Illustrator, and hands the identity to your client as a guideline website and a PDF. During the launch trial, Pro is open to everyone; the date it ends is on linyal.com/pro.

Inspect

Select a mark, or part of it. Inspect finds what was drawn almost, but not exactly, the same, and leads with the figure: “a curve 0.13 pt off its circle”, not a score. Hover a finding and its culprit lights up in the panel’s drawing of the mark.

  • It reads the radii the mark is drawn to, and which of them agree; the stem it is built on, and the clear space that follows from it; mirror and rotational symmetry; its angles, and where curves meet lines or miss them; and the rows and columns its anchor points share. A wordmark is read as letters, with its baseline, cap height and ascenders.
  • Findings come most visible first. Select the culprit in Illustrator, take the fix where there is one, or answer the finding: Intended is kept with your artwork, Wrong finding for the session. Checks not yet tuned on real marks say so, and Present prints nothing from them.
  • Draw construction puts the circles, axes, tangents and alignments on your artboard as layers you can restyle and export. You choose how much it shows, which of its ten layers draw, the line weight, marker size and opacity, its colour (one of your own included), and whether your artwork stays in full colour, dimmed or hidden behind it.
  • Draw clear space frames the mark with the clear space measured from it, at ×1, ×1.5 or ×2.
  • Clean up removes the anchor points that change nothing (stacked duplicates, points on a straight run, the empty paths a boolean operation leaves) and leaves your outline exactly where it was. Simplify further says how far the outline would move before it removes more.

How Inspect reads hand-drawn work

  • A shape cut with Pathfinder is read off its handles, so an Intersect lens reads as one radius with the disc beside it.
  • A short arc drawn by eye is known only as well as its handles say, and its radius is never printed finer than that.
  • A circle drawn with the Pen wobbles a little. Two radii inside its wobble are not reported as different.
  • A radius is named as a whole number, or as a ratio of another, only where it is known well enough to say so.
  • A stem reads the same whichever way the mark was drawn, reversed or mirrored, and a join is read past a sliver too thin to see.
  • A corner beside a tiny cut keeps its arc.

Present

Your file becomes a guideline your client can open.

  • The brand: its name, tagline, colours and fonts, and the logo Inspect measured with its mono and reversed versions, saved in your Illustrator document.
  • Brand Check reads the document against the brand: colours off the palette, fonts off the brand, a logo under its minimum size or distorted, and clear space. Select each finding, and fix or ignore it where Linyal can.
  • The Studio deck: twelve guideline pages as artboards in a new Illustrator document, and their PDF.
  • The Studio website, one page you host anywhere: the mark, the colours with values to copy, the downloads, the construction, the clear space, the lockups, the type, and what to do and not to do.
  • The Editorial website, eleven sections from cover to contact, dark or light, with the mission, values and contact you type, the photographs and icons you pick, and the brand’s fonts embedded where their licence allows. Its 13-page guideline PDF is printed from the same page by the Chrome, Edge or Brave on your computer.
  • The websites ask no server for anything but their own files: no tracking, no analytics, nothing fetched from elsewhere. Photographs are copied in with their location and camera data removed. On a Mac, large JPEG and PNG photographs are scaled to 2,400 px, and an iPhone’s HEIC photograph becomes a JPEG.
  • Marks in black or in several colours stay visible on a dark ground: black is reversed where it doesn’t read, a counter drawn as a shape stays a counter, and a mark is painted part by part.
  • Fonts are named as Illustrator lists them, in the specimens, the PDF and the design tokens.
  • Logo files: PNG in seven sizes from 16 to 1,024 px, SVG and PDF, in colour, mono and reversed.
  • Design tokens: the colours and fonts as DTCG JSON and CSS custom properties.

Build

  • Twelve layout grid systems, all free, three recommended for each of eight purposes, from posters and editorial pages to presentations, social formats and logos. Apply one to an artboard and it is drawn as layers, with a locked note of the system and why it works.
  • Circle through 3 points: select three anchor points, and Linyal draws the circle through them.

Free, Pro and the trial

During the launch trial, every Pro tool is open to everyone, with no sign-up and no key; guideline websites and PDFs keep the “Made with Linyal” line until you buy Pro. The trial ends by itself on the date shown on linyal.com/pro, and nothing you made is taken away.

  • Free: Inspect’s readout, Clean up’s safe removals and its tightest step, the grid systems in Build, the Studio deck’s PDF and the Studio guideline website
  • Pro: drawn construction and clear space, Clean up’s three looser steps, Circle through 3 points, one-click logo fixes, the full brand check, the deck’s construction, clear space and lockups pages, the Editorial guideline website and its PDF, logo files, design tokens and the handover report, and no “Made with Linyal” on your guideline websites and PDFs.

Pro’s price is announced before the trial ends.

Requirements

Illustrator 2025 (v29) or newer, on Mac or Windows.

Known limits

  • Some of Inspect’s checks are not yet tuned on real marks. The panel says which.
  • About one arc in 20,000 drawn by eye agrees with another by chance, and its radius is printed to the hundredth when it is 0.2 to 0.3% off.
  • Live text is measured once it is outlined (Type › Create Outlines). A mark of more than 4,000 points isn’t measured.
  • In a Large Canvas document, Build’s grids come out ten times too large.
  • The guideline PDF needs Chrome, Edge or Brave. Without one, Linyal leaves the print-ready page for you to save as a PDF.
  • The Studio website names the brand’s fonts but doesn’t embed them; Editorial embeds them where it can.
