Install Linyal

What you need

• Illustrator 2025 (v29) or newer, on Mac or Windows.
• Linyal works offline from the start. To get the trial and the Free and Pro settings, start Illustrator once while online.

Install it

Three ways, all with the file you downloaded, Linyal-0.9.0.zxp. Pick one, and use the same one when you update: two copies installed different ways can get in each other’s way.

With a ZXP installer app

The easiest way on a Mac or on Windows, with no command line.

1. Quit Illustrator.
2. Install a ZXP installer app, such as aescripts’ ZXP Installer or Anastasiy’s Extension Manager. Both are free.
3. Open it and drop Linyal-0.9.0.zxp onto it. On Windows you can also double-click the file.
4. Open Illustrator, then choose Window › Extensions (legacy) › Linyal.

With Adobe’s installer

Adobe’s own installer comes with the Creative Cloud desktop app, and works only while you are signed in to it. On a Mac it installs Linyal for every account and may ask for an administrator’s password.

1. Quit Illustrator, and check that you’re signed in to the Creative Cloud desktop app.
2. On a Mac, open Terminal and paste the first line. On Windows, open Command Prompt and paste the second. Each expects the file in your Downloads folder.
3. Open Illustrator, then choose Window › Extensions (legacy) › Linyal.

By hand, for your account only

No administrator’s password needed. This puts the extension in your own extensions folder, removing an earlier copy first.

1. Quit Illustrator.
2. On a Mac, open Terminal and paste the first line. On Windows, open PowerShell and paste the second.
3. Open Illustrator, then choose Window › Extensions (legacy) › Linyal.

To check the file you downloaded, run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Linyal-0.9.0.zxp in Terminal on a Mac, or certutil -hashfile "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\Linyal-0.9.0.zxp" SHA256 in Command Prompt on Windows. It should print the SHA-256 shown above.

Update

Download the new version and install it the same way. Your settings and your licence stay as they are. A version more than two releases old can no longer activate or check a licence, and says “Please update Linyal” when it tries.

If the panel doesn’t appear

• Check Illustrator’s version under Illustrator › About Illustrator on a Mac, or Help › About Illustrator on Windows. Linyal needs 2025 (v29) or newer; older versions don’t list it at all.
• Quit Illustrator completely and open it again. Illustrator looks for extensions when it starts.
• Look under Window › Extensions as well as Window › Extensions (legacy).
• If you installed Linyal more than one way, uninstall every copy (below), then install it once.
• If the panel opens blank, or still doesn’t appear, email hello@linyal.com with your Illustrator version, your Mac or Windows version and the way you installed. Once the panel opens, Settings › Copy diagnostics gives us the rest.

Uninstall

1. If you have Pro, open Settings in the panel while online and choose Deactivate this machine first. That frees the seat for another machine; if the machine can’t reach the licence server, free it at linyal.com/deactivate instead.
2. Quit Illustrator.
3. Remove Linyal the way you installed it. With a ZXP installer app, remove it in the app. With Adobe’s installer, run the same line with --remove Linyal (Mac) or /remove Linyal (Windows) in place of the install part and the file. By hand, delete the folder com.kadlab.linyal in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions on a Mac, or %APPDATA%\Adobe\CEP\extensions on Windows.
4. Linyal’s own settings and licence file stay in ~/Library/Application Support/com.kadlab.linyal on a Mac, or %APPDATA%\com.kadlab.linyal on Windows. Delete that folder too to remove them.

The construction and other drawings Linyal made stay in your documents, as ordinary layers you can delete.

What Linyal sends

Your artwork and brand data never leave your computer. The panel talks to Linyal’s licence server for the trial’s date, licence checks and usage counts, which you can turn off in Settings. The details are in the privacy policy.
