In short
- Linyal is a panel for Adobe Illustrator, made by KADLAB in Sweden. These terms cover the panel (Free, the trial and Pro) and linyal.com.
- Free is free for as long as you like, for any work, client work included.
- During the trial, every Pro tool is open to everyone until the date shown on linyal.com/pro, with no sign-up and no key. Guideline websites and PDFs keep the “Made with Linyal” line until you buy Pro. The trial ends by itself, and what you made with it stays yours and keeps working.
- Pro is a one-time purchase of a licence key for two Macs at a time, sold by Polar as our merchant of record. Your key keeps working with every new version of Linyal, and nothing Pro you have is ever taken away. New Pro grid systems released within a year of buying are included. Within 14 days of buying you can have a full refund.
- What you draw and export is yours. Linyal claims nothing in it.
- Linyal measures and reports. It can be wrong, so check what you hand over.
- Swedish law applies, and you keep the consumer rights of the country you live in.
Who these terms are between
These terms are between you and KADLAB, organisation number {ORG_NUMBER}, Rektorsvägen 4, 224 67 Lund, Sweden (“we”). By installing or using Linyal, or by buying Linyal Pro, you accept them. If you accept them for a studio or a company, you confirm that you may do so for it.
Linyal is not made by Adobe or connected with Adobe. Adobe and Illustrator are trademarks of Adobe. Buying Linyal Pro doesn’t change your Creative Cloud membership.
Your licence to use Linyal
We give you a licence to install Linyal and use it on the Macs you work on, for your own work and your clients’ work, commercial work included. The licence is personal to you (or to your studio, if a studio bought it) and you can’t sell it or pass it on.
You may not:
- copy, sell or hand out the panel itself, other than by sharing the link to linyal.com/install;
- get around the licence check, the trial’s end date or the line between Free and Pro;
- use one Pro licence key on more Macs at a time than it allows;
- take the panel apart or change it, except where the law lets you do so whatever these terms say.
Free, the trial and Pro
What is Free and what is Pro
What is Free and what is Pro is listed on linyal.com/pro. We may move a feature from one to the other. A feature that was part of Pro when you bought your licence stays available to your licence.
The trial
Until the date shown on linyal.com/pro and in the panel, every Pro tool is open to everyone, with no sign-up, no key and no payment. It ends by itself at the end of that day (UTC), in every panel, online or not. We may move the date. During the trial your panel still counts as Free, so Free sites and PDFs still carry “Made with Linyal · linyal.com”. When the trial ends, nothing you made is taken away: drawings in your documents stay there, and you can still remove them; the sites, PDFs and files you exported stay yours and keep working.
Pro
Pro is a one-time purchase. The price is shown on linyal.com/pro and in the panel. Your licence key works on two Macs at a time. To move it, deactivate it in Settings on the old Mac while it is online, or ask us at linyal.com/deactivate if you no longer have that Mac or it couldn’t reach the licence server. The licence doesn’t expire. Your key keeps working with every new version of Linyal, nothing Pro you have is ever taken away, and new Pro grid systems released within a year of buying are included.
Licence checks
While Linyal runs and the Mac is online, the panel checks a Pro licence once a day, and tries again each hour if a check can’t get through; you can also check from Settings with Revalidate now. Pro stays active for 30 days after the last successful check, online or not, and for 7 days more while Settings asks you to check again; after that Pro pauses until a check succeeds. Free keeps working all the time.
Students
Students get Pro free while they study, with a normal licence key. A student licence is for study and portfolio work; paid client work needs Pro.
Buying Pro
Polar Software, Inc. sells Linyal Pro as our merchant of record. When you buy, you also accept Polar’s buyer terms (polar.sh/legal/checkout-buyer-terms). Polar takes the payment, charges VAT or sales tax where it applies and shows it before you pay, and sends your receipt and licence key.
If Linyal Pro isn’t right for you, write to hello@linyal.com within 14 days of buying and we refund you in full, through Polar.
If a purchase is refunded, we revoke its licence key, and Pro stops on that key at the panel’s next licence check. Nothing you made with it is taken away.
This doesn’t limit any right you have under the consumer law of the country you live in.
Your work
What you make with Linyal is yours: your artwork, your brand data and everything you export. We claim no rights in it, and we never receive it (see Privacy).
On Free, the guideline websites and PDFs Linyal writes carry the line “Made with Linyal · linyal.com”. Please leave it in; Pro removes it.
You are responsible for having the right to use what you put into a site or a PDF: the logos, photographs and fonts. Before Linyal embeds a font file you picked in a website, it asks you to confirm that your font licence allows it. The fonts Linyal ships are open-licence fonts, used under their own licences.
What Linyal does, and what it doesn’t
Linyal reads and measures what you drew, and presents it. It doesn’t design, and it doesn’t judge whether a mark is good. Its measurements can be wrong, and the panel says which of its checks are not yet tuned on real marks. Check what Linyal tells you before you rely on it, and check what you hand to a client.
Linyal changes your document only when you ask it to, with a button such as Draw construction, Clean up or Save brand. Keep copies of your files, and use Illustrator’s Undo if a change isn’t what you wanted.
Availability and changes
The panel works offline, except for what needs the licence server: activating a key, the licence check and the trial’s date. The licence server and linyal.com may sometimes be unavailable.
We may update, change or stop parts of Linyal. The licence server supports the three newest versions of the panel; an older one is asked to update before it can activate or check a licence.
Liability
Linyal is provided as it is. We are not liable for indirect loss, such as lost profit, lost work or lost data, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Linyal Pro in the 12 months before the claim. These limits don’t apply where the law doesn’t allow them, including for damage caused on purpose or through gross negligence, and they don’t affect your rights as a consumer.
Ending
You can stop using Linyal at any time; to free a Pro seat first, deactivate it in Settings while online. We may end a licence that is used against these terms, for example a key shared beyond its seats, after telling you why.
Privacy
What Linyal and linyal.com send and keep is described in the privacy policy at linyal.com/privacy.
Law and disputes
Swedish law applies to these terms, and disputes go to the Swedish courts. If you are a consumer in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in and may bring a claim there. If we can’t agree, you can take the dispute to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN), arn.se, Box 174, 101 23 Stockholm, Sweden, and we will take part.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we update this page and its date. A change never takes away what you already bought.
