Clear space
Inspect measures the clear space the mark needs from its stem, and Draw clear space frames the mark with it on your artboard. The brand’s clear space also pads the logo files and sets the handover report’s “Room around it”.
How it is measured
The clear space is the larger of the mark’s stem and one eighth of its height. Linyal gives one only when it is sure of the stem, and the stem is at most half the mark’s width and height. The frame starts at the mark’s visible edge, with the outer half of any stroke.
How to use it
Open Specs
Select the mark and open the Specs tab. The Clear space row shows the value, and the drawing above the tabs shows the frame.
Choose the multiple
Open Clear space and choose ×1, ×1.5 or ×2.
20 pt on every side of the mark.
Draw it
Press Draw clear space. The frame goes on its own layer, such as
Linyal Clear space · Artboard 1, apart from the construction, so removing one leaves the other.Pro. Drawing the frame is Pro; the button reads “Upgrade to draw” on Free. The value and the preview are free. Until 31 January 2027, Pro is open to everyone.
Remove it
Remove deletes the frame’s layer, on every licence.
Your own clear space
To use a figure of your own, type it in Present › Details under Clear space, pt. It becomes the brand’s clear space: it pads the logo files and sets the handover report’s “Room around it”. Inspect keeps showing the clear space it measured.
At least, pt states a smaller minimum, for tight layouts. It can’t be larger than the clear space.
When there is no clear space
Without a stem it can trust, Inspect says why, in place of the button:
The stem is not certain enough to derive a clear space from The mark is one solid shape, so there is nothing to scale a clear space from No stem unit found, so there is no clear space to draw
Type a clear space in Present › Details to give the brand one anyway.
Limits
- A drawn frame isn’t updated when you edit the mark, and the panel doesn’t mark it as out of date. Draw it again after an edit.
- In a selection with live text or images, the value is measured around the paths only, and the row says so.
